Post-First-Year Admission to English-Taught Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery

Second Cycle Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery – class LM-41 c.u.
2017/2018 Academic Year
REGULATIONS CONCERNING POST-FIRST-YEAR ADMISSION TO THE DEGREE PROGRAMME IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY (TAUGHT IN ENGLISH) IN THE CASE OF STUDENT TRANSFERS, THE RE-EVALUATION OF UNIVERSITY CREDITS, THE RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS, SECOND DEGREES, AND CHANGES TO DEGREE PROGRAMMES

In view of the restricted access (numerus clausus) to the courses, students will be admitted for post-first-year study only if there are places available for the year in question. To determine whether or not places are available for the various years of the course, the number of available places will be ascertained.
The number of available places for each year of the course will then be published on the webpage dedicated to post-first-year admissions to courses offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

Note that in order to gain admission to the English-taught second-cycle degree program in Medicine and Surgery, students must sit the national admission test that will be held on 14 September 2017 (the deadline for applications is 25 July 2017 – see the admissions notice).

Students already enrolled at an EU or extra-UE university in an English-taught degree programme in Medicine and Surgery and who possess a sufficient number of credits for post-first-year enrolment are exempt from the admission test. However, post-first-year admission for these students is always subject to validation, on the part of the Italian university to which the students seek admission, of the training they have undertaken, particularly as regards their degree course, the exams they have already taken, the theoretical studies that have completed and any practical training that was carried out at the university of origin. Admission is also inevitably subject to the numerus clausus established by the university in its annual scheduling for each year of the course.

RE-EVALUATION OF UNIVERSITY CREDITS, RECOGNITION OF A SECOND DEGREE, CHANGES TO DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Students in the following categories:
1. students with credits that were obtained previously in a course of studies (now suspended) in Medicine and Surgery at an Italian or foreign university, and who seek recognition of those exams already taken (Credit Recognition);
2. students enrolled in the degree program in Medicine and Surgery in Italian (students who passed the admission test in the 2009/10, 2010/11 should refer to the following section entitled TRANSFERS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES, AND TRANSFERS TO THE ENGLISH-TAUGHT DEGREE PROGRAMME IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY);

are required to sit the admission test, and shall have priority in the allocation of available places on the basis of the position they obtain in the national classification of applicants drawn up by the Ministry of Education following the completion of the test. Students who are ASSIGNED to Pavia and who wish to proceed with the admissions process in accordance with the terms established by the Ministry of Education may do so if entitled to post-first-year admission, provided there are places available for the year in question; otherwise they shall remain in the 1st year of the course.
Upon completing the admission process, such students may make a formal request for credit exemptions for second degrees, for the re-evaluations of university credits, and for the recognition of foreign qualifications; they should download the relevant form from the Modulistica section of the Student Administration Office webpage, complete it, and then present it at the appropriate counter of the Student Administration Office, complete with tax-duty stamp (see admissions notice).

The Student Administration Office will publish the list of applications received.

Applications will be considered only for those years of the degree program where places are available. In January 2018 a new check of the available places will be made.

Candidates who regularly applied within the deadline can send an integration of their career within 31 December 2017, as described ABOVE (except payment)

Once the available places have been assigned in accordance with the above-mentioned procedures, the Student Administration Office will inform those selected with an email containing the following attachments:
1. the instructions that should be followed to complete the admissions procedure;
2. the permission request (nulla-osta) that is to be sent to the previous university requesting transfer to the University of Pavia (in the case of transfer from an Italian university).

Criteria for the assignment of available places

Applications will be evaluated by a specially appointed Committee. Candidates have to pass a quiz test for the second year admission and/or an interview in case of admission to a following year. The Committee will determine:

• the possible year of admission, in accordance with the rules regarding the prerequisites needed in order to be placed in a specific year of the course (as specified in the Course Regulations
• training activities that may be recognized after the transfer to the University of Pavia

In the event that the number of applications exceeds the availability of places for a particular year (note that students who have passed the admission test are given priority in the allocation of available places; see the paragraph RE-EVALUATION OF UNIVERSITY CREDITS, RECOGNITION OF A SECOND DEGREE, CHANGES TO DEGREE PROGRAMMES), a classification will be drawn up based on the following criteria:
a) priority given to the candidate with a curriculum that allows admission to a regolar position according to the Course Regulations;
b) in the case of parity, priority is given to the curriculum with the highest number of acknowledged university credits
b) in the case of parity, the arithmetical average of the certified exam marks
c) in the case of continued parity, the younger applicant

The classification will be published in January 2018 on the webpages dedicated to post-first-year admissions to courses offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
Enrolments will take place in February 2018.
