Enrolment procedure for non EU-citizens residing outside Italy



The regulations concerning the enrolment of EU and international citizens in Italian universities are outlined in the MIUR "Procedure per l’ingresso, il soggiorno e l’immatricolazione degli studenti stranieri ai corsi di formazione superiore in Italia per l’anno accademico 2017-2018" published on 28/02/2017

The quota for non-EU students residing outside Italy for the academic year 2017/2018 is published on the MIUR website:

International students residing abroad have to contact the Italian embassy or consulate in their country and submit a pre-enrollment application to our university DIRECTLY to them, the deadline is July 21, 2017. For Medicine and other national fixed quota courses the deadline is July 7.


International candidates, who wish to enrol in degree courses taught in Italian, must pass the Italian language examination. Only candidates that pass the Italian examination can enrol in Pavia University.
The examination will be held on 1 September 2017, at 8.45 a.m., room G1 in Palazzo S. Tommaso, Piazza del Lino 1, Pavia. In order to take the test prospective Students are requested to display the proof of payment of the registration fee (amount due:  € 60.00). Method of payment: by a deposit slip at the post office (“bollettino postale”), that should be filled in with the following details: name and surname,  postal checking account (ccp) no. 198200, made out to “Universitā degli Studi di Pavia – Servizio Tesoreria”, payment reference (“causale”): 'Rimborso spese per prova di conoscenza lingua italiana.'

The following categories of candidates are exempted from the Italian language examination:
1. Candidates who enrol in degree courses taught in English
2. Candidates who have a C1 or B2 level CELI certification

If you have a compulsory test in your country to access the university, you will need to sit a test also in our free access courses. If you pass an access test, no culture test is required.

Documents to carry to the Student Administrative Offices to complete the enrolment procedures:
- original school leaving certificate with official translation and declaration of value (reading the mark obtained against the maximum achievable mark, and its equivalence with the Italian grading system) and legalisation by the Italian Diplomatic Representation in the country where the study certificatation has been issued; a certificate stating that the candidate has passed the domestic university admission test if such a test is required by law in the student's country of origin
-  a front  and back photocopy of an identity document that conforms to the laws in force. Identification of the student will be based on the presentation of this document (Identity Card, Driving License, Passport, etc.)
- a photocopy of the Personal Italian Fiscal Code  - issued by any Italian Tax Office (“Agenzia delle Entrate”) ,  in Pavia: Via Mazzini, 18 
- proof of payment of the first instalment of the university fees (Please check the new announcement and flat rates for the academic year 2017-18 to be published at the end of June: Tuition Fees)
- a photocopy of permit of stay/ visa D
- in case of request of abbreviation of academic career (admission to a second degree, previous academic career evaluations, equivalence of foreign study qualifications) it is also necessary to present the relevant application form in 'Modulistica' section of Student Administration webpages


Enrolment of Non-EU candidates residing outside Italy is subject to a ranking list, compiled by competent Commettees and based on candidates' combined performance in the Italian test (with the exemptions listed above) and Admission/General culture test.
Students who qualify to enrol MUST respect the deadlines set for the formalization of the enrolments.
Candidates who do not take the required admission tests and  those who do not pass them will not be eligible to enrol.
Candidates who do not pass the preliminary tests or that do not succeed in  getting access to another degree course, must return to their country of origin by the expiry date of their student visa or permit of stay.
