Erasmus ("European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students") is a European Commission exchange programme that enables Higher Education students in 31 European countries to study for part of their degree (3 to 12 months) in another European country. Aim of the exchange programme is to give students the opportunity to attend classes or develop a project of Thesis in a foreign University and see their efforts recognized as credits acquired and transferred to their Home Institution. Moreover, students get a chance to experience a different culture and immerse themselves in another language without having to pay tuition fees other than the ones due to their Home University.   Since 2007 Erasmus is part of LLP (Life Long Learning Programme), the new community programme developed in order to build up an European learning dimension during the entire life of an individual.

The Language Centre - Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo

In recent years, the University of Pavia has responded to the growth in international communication by strengthening its language-learning resources. Some thirty-odd mother-tongue foreign language experts, known as Collaboratori ed esperti linguistici, now provide language support services for staff and students alike. Students and visitors are advised to contact the technical staff in the Laboratori - Sede centrale located in the Cortile Sforzesco in the Central Campus with regard to the Centre’s facilities and services, which include autoapprendimento, i. e. the self-access use in the Language Centre’s rooms of an impressive stock of courses, exam materials, dictionaries, audio and videocassettes and DVD films relating to 50 languages.

Other services provided by the Language Centre include:


  • Lingua italiana per stranieri (Italian as a foreign language). The Language Centre is an authorized centre for the CILS exam (Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera) in Italian as a foreign language. The Centre runs exam sessions in June and December leading to the CILS certificate awarded by the Università per Stranieri di Siena. The Language Centre’s website also provides details, in English, of courses in Italian as a foreign language for Erasmus students.

  • Lingua inglese per stranieri (English as a foreign language). The Language Centre is an authorized centre for Cambridge Assessment /UCLES and hence the PET, FCE, CAE and CPE exams.


CUS Pavia – University of Sports

The Pavia C.U.S. carries out competitive activities both in the university circuit (participation in the University National Championships and in national and international activities) and in the circuit of the National Sports Federations in the following disciplines: Track, Canoeing, Rowing, Volleyball, Rugby, Fencing and Archery.
It organizes introductory courses aimed at recreation in: Aerobics, Soccer, Canoeing, Rowing, Physical Conditioning, Modern Dance, Fitness Mix, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Pre-skiing, Fencing, Step, Stretching, Archery, Judo and Tournaments in 7-man Men’s and Women’s Soccer, 5-man Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Beach Volley, Men’s and Women’s Basketball.
The activities of the C.U.S. are carried out at the Polo Cravino facilities (consisting of three multi-purpose gymnasiums, a weight-lifting room, a fencing room, a soccer/rugby field, a soccer/archery field, a field for 5-man soccer, two beach volley courts and a exercise trail with gymnastic equipment), and at the canoeing-rowing facilities on the left bank of the Ticino River.
Members can use the field for 5-man soccer and the volleyball and basketball courts by reserving in advance while the use of the beach volley courts and the exercise trail is free. All university students can become members of the Pavia C.U.S.

Disability Services

S.A.I.S.D is the Servizio di Assistenza e Integrazione Studenti Disabili i.e. the service catering for the needs of disabled students. S.A.I.S.D (Service for the Assistance and Integration of Disabled Students) was set up in the 1999/2000 academic year under the provisions of Italian legislation (Legge 17/99) and subsequent amendments (Legge 104/1992). S.A.I.S.D offers a service that is designed to welcome disabled students to the University of Pavia, and to assist them and integrate into University life. S.A.I.S.D organizes, supports, co-ordinates and monitors all the initiatives relating to the integration of disabled students in all aspects of University life, making it possible for them to attend lessons, laboratory sessions, to get access to libraries and other university facilities.

Sportello per I Rinnovi del Permesso di Soggiorno (Stay Permit Renewal Office)

A special office has been set up on an experimental basis to facilitate and speed up the process of obtaining or renewing authorizations to reside temporarily in Italy. The Office is located in
via S. Agostino 1, and is open every Tuesday from 9.30 to 12.30.
The service has been established under an agreement with the Questura and is designed to help teachers and students from the European Union who work for or are enrolled in the University of Pavia. The Office provides the following services:


  • Information relating to the documentation required for the renewal of authorizations;

  • Management on behalf of teachers and students of all the steps relating to the issue of the Permesso di Soggiorno (Stay Permit) which includes collecting the required documentation and subsequently handing it over the Questura;

  • Withdrawal of the Permesso di Soggiorno directly from the Office.

The service is free.
