Erasmus ("European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students") is a European Commission exchange programme that enables Higher Education students in 31 European countries to study for part of their degree (3 to 12 months) in another European country. Aim of the exchange programme is to give students the opportunity to attend classes or develop a project of Thesis in a foreign University and see their efforts recognized as credits acquired and transferred to their Home Institution. Moreover, students get a chance to experience a different culture and immerse themselves in another language without having to pay tuition fees other than the ones due to their Home University. 

Since 2007 Erasmus is part of LLP (Life Long Learning Programme), the new community programme developed in order to build up an European learning dimension during the entire life of an individual.
