The doctorate school in Engineering Science includes four doctorate courses. The management of the school aims at obtaining a common level of excellence between the courses, increase multidisciplinary activities and exploit the existing synergy between the courses on a didactic level as well as in research.
Joining very different branches of engineering in one programme is based on the desired figure of the engineer who independently of his/her sector of competence, is characterized by a combination of good mathematical skills, advanced physical reasoning and - as a result- a rational and creative, yet realistic approach allowing him/her to face the variety of challenges of research, production and services.Developing these parallel capabilities required to a certain extent from every engineer, is of a fundamental importance for the postgraduate programme, in vision of the high end research engineering doctorates are required to engage in the modern society. On these grounds the postgraduate programme encourages the formation of a broad spectrum of activities with a common interest and promotes knowledge sharing between the various courses of which it is composed. This multidisciplinary approach permits the doctorate students to expand their cultural horizon beyond the specialization’s boundaries and to improve their ability to give a real contribution to innovation through the introduction of new ideas and prospective in any given field of interest. Moreover, the programme promotes the cooperation with other doctorate students within Italy and abroad. International student exchanges are very important in the context of the ongoing globalization process, and particularly within the scientific and high-tech communities.
